Zoning Districts

The City is divided into zoning districts, each with specific approved uses.

Historic Districts

Mobile has a long history of development, and certain neighborhoods are zoned to protect their distinct historical character. If you are planning to develop in one of these districts you should be aware of the rules. If you plan to change a site outside on one the core uses, you might have to present at a public meeting.

Neighborhood Plans

Certain neighborhoods have created their own plans. These are designed to preserve the character of each community, and plan for smart growth. If you are planning on developing in Spring Hill, Africatown, or other neighborhoods, be sure to read the plan before you begin.

The City GIS department created interactive maps where you can search by parcel, zoning district, and other layers.
